Whiskey Got The Better Part of Me

by Matthew Welde

i've fancied myself an outsider and a rambler

spent my fair share of time and money gambling

and i've done my best to live

to live and to be free

whiskey got the better part of me

i’ve travelled up and down, been here been there
stayed awake for days straight flying through the air
and we laughed like hyena’s barking up a tree
whiskey got the better part of me

i had a woman who loved me so dear
her biggest fear was that one day I’d up and disappear
she said you always get a second chance but you don’t get three
whiskey got the better part of me

the old man told me, he looked straight in my eyes
there’s nothing at the bottom of that bottle but lies
and i said thank you sir, but we’ll have to disagree
whiskey got the better part of me
