Night Time Lights

by Matthew Welde

he went from nowhere to no one in the blink of an eye

from a town in Missouri to a factory line

all alone in city, it’s good thing he’s gritty

and he likes to unwind in the night time lights

night time lights

he spends all his money in the night time lights

he met dealers and stealers who were one of a kind

the most dangerous people are a helluva a time

but he owed them some money, the boss was named Sonny

he said come work for me in the night time lights

night time lights

all his debts were forgiven in the night time lights

he went from pauper to pusher, he knows it's a crime

but a factory worker has no end in sight

he stays wet with the yearners, the midnight oil burners

who call off the day for the night time lights

night time lights

the candy man rides in the night time lights

and then it all went wrong on a thursday evening

for 3 minutes straight he wasn’t even breathing

he took too much of the wrong kind of stuff

Sonny and the boys said enough is enough

he went from pusher to prisoner with 8 years to go

what he’ll do after, we’ll never know

now he stares at the ceiling, thinking what’s more appealing

the moon and the stars or the night time lights?

night time lights

the moon and the stars or the night time lights?
